The wide-open grasslands, gradual climbs, and views of the Flatirons make this an enjoyable ride for beginners, families, or anyone looking for a relaxed trail experience close to town.
Local Tip: This area has very little shade, so summer mornings and evenings are usually the most comfortable times to ride. Afternoon winds can also pick up quickly across the open landscape.

Elevation Gain: 250–600 ft
Difficulty: Easy to Easy-Intermediate
Ride Time: 1–1.5 hours
Marshall Mesa is a great progression trail for riders who are ready to move beyond basic paths and experience more traditional mountain biking terrain. The Marshall Valley, Community Ditch, and Coal Seam sections create a smooth loop with gentle climbs and flowing descents.
The terrain remains approachable while helping riders develop important skills like climbing control, cornering, and navigating small rocky sections.
Local Tip: Starting from the Doudy Draw Trailhead can provide a smoother experience compared to the rockier climb from the main Marshall Mesa entrance.

(Beginner Lines)
Distance: ~1 mile (Glades Loop) | 3–6 miles typical per session
Elevation Gain: Minimal
Difficulty: Easy (Green-rated lines)
Ride Time: 1–2 hours (lap-based riding)
Valmont Bike Park is a different experience from Boulder’s natural trail systems. This purpose-built park focuses on skill development through repeatable features, making it a great place to practice before moving onto longer singletrack rides.

Ride Time: 1–2 hours
Doudy Draw offers a noticeable step up from Boulder’s beginner-friendly trails. Riders can expect open landscapes, punchy climbs, and rockier sections that require more attention and careful line choices.
